Abstract:
The problem of literary translation is one of the little studied in modern Adyghe (Kabardian)
and in general in the North Caucasian literary criticism. Its relevance is due to the fact that over
the past few decades there has been a sharp decrease in the number of translations of works of art,
which, accordingly, entails a rare nature of research on this problem. The scientific novelty of the
work lies in the fact that for the first time an attempt was made to analyze the translations of the
poems “The Cart of Life”, “To Chaadaev”, “The Caucasus” by A. Pushkin into the Kabardino-
Circassian language in a comparative aspect. In particular, the features of the translations
carried out by the Kabardian authors-translators Z. Tkhagazitov, K. Elgarov, A. Orazaev are
revealed. The purpose of the study is to recreate the general picture of the evolution of the
art of translation in national literature on the example of translations of famous works of the
classics of Russian literature. Achieving this goal requires solving a number of tasks, the main
of which is to conduct a thorough comparative analysis of the original texts and various options
for their translation into the Kabardino-Circassian language. In accordance with the purpose
and objectives of the study, the issues of transferring the content and compositional features of
works in literary translation have been studied. The problems accompanying the translation
process are considered: issues of transculturalization, merging and mutual influence of different
linguistic cultures; the perception of the translation by representatives and carriers of “other”
cultures, the reflection of the translator’s individual authorship in the material he translated, etc.
A number of general scientific methods (analysis, description, comparative historical method,
etc.) are involved in the study. The results obtained can be used in the study of the history of
the Adyghe (Kabardian) literature and, more broadly, the literature of the peoples of the North
Caucasus and the Russian Federation.
