Abstract:
Collecting / fixing folklore texts is a generally recognized and relevant practice today for
obtaining information for such sciences as folklore, ethnography, ethnolinguistics. This folkloreethnographic
and linguistic scientific expedition, fixing the texts of the plain and mountainous cities
and villages of Ossetia, was carried out after a long break, since previous expeditions recorded, in
the vast majority of cases, texts only from mountainous territories, in particular, North Ossetia.
In the process of preparing the collected material for a collection of folklore texts, the participants
of the expedition solved the issues of adequate translation and explanation of ethnic symbols and
attributes of the spiritual and material sphere of the traditional life of the Ossetians; determining
the genre of the recorded text; classification; presentations, etc. During the expedition and after
it, the field of problems and unresolved issues of modern folklore, ethnography, anthropology, and
linguistics in our region is outlined. The collected and published folklore, ethnographic and linguistic
material will undoubtedly become a good impetus for a new reading of the symbols, plots and images
of Ossetian folklore in synchronous and diachronic terms. All collected audio and video folklore,
ethnographic and linguistic material will be stored in the Scientific Archive of the North Ossetian
Institute for Humanitarian and Social Studies. The result of a comprehensive folklore-ethnographic
and linguistic expedition in North and South Ossetia (2021-2022) became a collection of folklore
texts with the same name. The publication was financially supported by the State Program of the
Republic of North Ossetia-Alania “National and cultural development of the Ossetian people” for
2021-2025, subprogram 1 “Preservation of the national and cultural identity of the Ossetian people”
for 2021-2025, main event 1.1.1. “Conducting a comprehensive folklore, ethnographic and linguistic
expedition together with scientists from the Republic of South Ossetia”. Program coordinator –
Ministry of North Ossetia-Alania for National Policy and External Relations.
