The Ossetic ritual folklore, which goes back to ancient times, still contains archaic elements, the study of which is very relevant for modern folklore studies. The rituals considered in the research work relate to the image of Uatsilla/Uatsella/Elia, who in the Ossetian tradition fulfills the function of thunder, is the patron saint of harvest and grain. His Cult is still honored by Ossetian people. Several calendar holidays and situational rites relate to his image in the tradition. Musical genres of folklore played and continue to play a huge role in almost all rituals. In the article a complex method of research of the Ossetic Thunder Cult in the syncretic unity of ritual and music, where the magic of singing had a special place, is chosen, which is the reason for the relevance of the chosen topic. The materials on the research topic include archival data and published samples, most of which are represented by texts, the smaller part – by notations made by the author of the article and introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The conducted musical and typological analysis allowed us to conclude that all songs have different musical and typological characteristics, which is due to the difference in genre affiliation. In general, the musical code of rituals in honor of thunder has been preserved heterogeneously. Some samples continue to function within the framework of traditional rituals, others – due to changes in ritual reality are used in similar contexts, due to changes in ritual reality, and some are forgotten altogether. However, it stands to mention that in recent years many genres have been revived by enterprising young musicians.
