Abstract:

Using the example of the journal “Izvestiya SOIGSI”, this article analyzes the innovative potential of regional periodical journals as a specific form of organizing scientific knowledge and a special type of professional communication. It demonstrates that among the wide range of regional journals in the humanities focused on Caucasian studies, “Izvestiya SOIGSI” occupies a special place, being the only scholarly publication specializing in a variety of issues in contemporary Ossetian and Caucasian studies, examined across a broad chronological range. The journal’s main functions are defined, and its structure and content are presented. Based on its comprehensive and multifaceted subject area of research, the journal implements an interdisciplinary scholarly communication strategy. Its activities since its resumption in 2007 have marked a breakthrough in the development of scholarly Ossetian and Alanian studies, as well as profound qualitative changes in the development of these areas of Caucasian studies as branches of Russian humanities.
