Abstract: Kinship terms largely define the specifics of the national-linguistic worldview, as they reflect ways of perceiving and categorizing reality through the lens of family and kinship relations. Each culture has developed its own principles for naming relatives and in-laws, which are shaped not only by the lexical and grammatical features of the language but also by the historical and cultural experience of the people. A comparative study of kinship terms in Russian and Ossetian makes it possible to identify differences and similarities in their structure, semantics, spelling, as well as in the methods of forming new lexical units. This research has scientific and practical value both for linguists working in the fields of typology and etymology and for educators, translators, and philologists operating at the intersection of the two cultures. In the context of bilingualism, which still persists in certain regions of the North Caucasus, the issue of correct use of kinship terms is particularly important: incorrect or inaccurate usage can distort the meaning of a message and, in some cases, lead to cultural misunderstandings.
