PERIODICALS OF THE NORTH OSSETIAN ASSR DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR: HISTORICAL MEMORY AND INTERETHNIC UNITY.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the North Ossetian printed periodicals as an institution for preserving historical memory and strengthening patriotic sentiments and civil unity of the peoples of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War. It examines the most characteristic newspaper stories from the war period, which told of national heroes and their exploits on the front lines, as well as the united work of rear enterprises and collective farms to hasten victory over the enemy army. Attention is also paid to the important theme of how the press reflected ideas of unity between the Ossetian and other North Caucasian peoples, Russians, and other Soviet peoples for the salvation of a common socialist homeland. The relevance of this article lies in the need to debunk the myth, recently intensively cultivated by anti-Russian propaganda, of the disunity of the peoples of the USSR during the military aggression of the Third Reich and the lack of desire for unification in the face of a common threat. In this regard, anti-Russian propaganda focuses particularly on the North Caucasus, which has always been portrayed as the most “rebellious” region within the Soviet state. However, a study of the press and wartime documents reveals that the majority of the North Caucasus population was patriotic and eager to defend their homeland from the Nazis. The large number of heroic veterans from the North Caucasus who voluntarily enlisted in the Red Army from the beginning of the war also undeniably demonstrates their devotion to the Soviet homeland. The aim of this article is to examine the propaganda activities of the North Ossetian ASSR press during the period of general military and labor mobilization. The study’s novelty is achieved by introducing periodicals that reflect the heroism of the Ossetian and other Soviet peoples, both on the front lines and in the rear. It was concluded that the periodical press of the North Ossetian ASSR, on whose pages the memory of events and people was preserved, made an enormous contribution to strengthening the civil unity of the country.
