Abstract:
This work is dedicated to the founder of circus horse riding, the famous Ossetian rider Agube K. Gudsow. The article presents both well-known and newly discovered facts of a difficult and interesting biography of this famous circus artist. Having left on European tour in 1908, he no longer returned to Russia. Having chosen England as his new place of residence, Gudsow performed a lot in different countries and also became the author of the book «The Princess Biaslant. A Caucasian Story», first published in London in 1926. The reader is offered the first translation of the book into Russian, accompanied by a preface by R. B. Cunninghame Graham and comments by the author and translator. The «Caucasian Story» offered to readers is of literary and historiographic interest. It will also be useful in studying the ethnography and traditional culture of the peoples of the Caucasus, the norms of behavior and etiquette of the Christian and Muslim population of the region.
