INDO-EUROPEAN COMMUNITY AND ITS REFLECTION IN THE NARTA SAGAS OF THE OSSETIANS

Abstract:
Any epic creation has a beginning and an end. Some scientists incredibly archaize the time of
origin of Nartiada, referring it to the IV‑III millennium BC; others bring it closer to the present,
dating the early Middle Ages. Most of the scholars believe that the time of the beginning of the epic
formation corresponds to the VIII‑VII centuries BC. However, the parallels drawn in the article
between the Nart epic and everyday life and the culture of the Indo-European peoples, allow us
to move the time of the birth of the Ossetian Nartiada to the second half of the II millennium BC.
Scythian-Nartian parallels, first identified by V. F. Miller, significantly expanded by his followers,
especially G. Dumézil, V. I. Abaev, Yu. S. Gagloity, et al. In the images, motifs and plots of the
Ossetian epic, a lot echoes the legends and customs of the Scythians, Sarmatians and Alans. As
it testify by the ethnocultural parallels, many images and plots, through the Scythian-Sarmatian
mediation, go back to the period preceding the collapse of the Indo-European community
