Abstract:
The article discusses the activities of the Terminological Commission on the Ossetian language, which played a large role in the formation of special and industrial vocabulary. The authors analyze the principles of compiling terminological dictionaries, the range of problems that arise when choosing possible options for nominating lexemes, the difficulties created by distance and the political system of that time. The commission consisted of educators and scientists who worked in specialized institutions in the South and North of Ossetia, who had completely different points of view on the principles and mechanisms of introducing new terminology into scientific circulation. The difficulties arising in the compilation of terminological dictionaries were associated not only with linguistic problems, but, to a greater extent, reflected the political processes that took place in that historical era when any member of the commission could be unfairly accused of nationalism only on the basis of the fact that coined the term using the means of the Ossetian language itself and did not use international or borrowed vocabulary. The analysis of the materials of dictionary entries and the activities of the Terminology Commission on the Ossetian language in the 20-30s. of the XXth century confirmed by archival documents, which recorded observations and notes of eyewitnesses of those events and the members of the commission themselves. The relevance of the study is increasing in connection with the creation in our years of an interstate terminology commission, which, as before, includes specialists from both South and North Ossetia, who develop the terminology of various industries that need to update the nomenclature of terms, such as vocabulary office work, state and municipal administration, etc. The socio-political vocabulary and terminology, economic and legal terminology, in which, in connection with the development of society, are constantly undergoing dramatic changes and neological outbursts, require renewal.
