PRIVILEGED SURNAMES OF THE KURTATIAN SOCIETY OF NORTH OSSETIA IN THE 19TH CENTURY DOCUMENTS AND MATERIALS
Marzoev, Islam-Bek T.
Izvestia SOIGSI. 2022. Issue 43 (82).

Abstract:The article determines, using the 19th century archival documents, the origin of the surnames
of the Kurtatian society, reducing them from Os-Bagatar, resuming their genealogical tree,
determining their socio-political connection in society, and in Ossetia as a whole. To accomplish
the tasks set in scientific circulation, materials of unpublished archival documents, genealogical
trees, and various kinds of petitions addressed to officials of the Military Ossetian District and
the Terek Region, etc. are used. General scientific methods, such as analysis, synthesis, and
definition were used, as well as a comparative method applied to a historical source to determine
the extent of their application. For the first time, a complete list of families of the Kurtatian
society, descended from Kurt’s three sons: Naifon, Timbol and Ualasykh, was determined. The
variants of the origin of these families are excluded. The results of the study subsequently lead
to the emergence of common genealogical trees. Attraction of archival materials and published
sources allow achieving the goals and objectives of the study. The materials of this article are
fundraising designed to collect data in the history of North Ossetia. They make it possible to
more deeply and thoroughly reveal the genealogy of Ossetian families.
