Abstract: The artistic world and creative identity of the outstanding Ossetian poet, playwright, publicist, folklorist, and artist Konstantin Levanovich Khetagurov were formed largely under the influence of world artistic culture and primarily Russian literature. The world of A.S. Pushkin, M.Yu. Lermontov, A.S. Griboyedov, A.N. Ostrovsky and many others opened up for him within the walls of the Stavropol gymnasium. The Ossetian poet mastered the best qualities of Russian poets, prose writers, and playwrights, including their ability to enter into a creative dialogue with other literatures, which Russian comparativists wrote about back in the 19th century. The works of M.M. Bakhtin confirm the importance of intercultural dialogue in the 20th century. For Kosta Khetagurov dialogism has become one of the stylistic features of creativity. The article examines examples of intercultural dialogue between the Ossetian poet and M.Yu. Lermontov in connection with the theme of “poet and poetry”, which is relevant at all times, and is widely represented in the works of both poets. Khetagurov uses various techniques to establish a dialogue with his favorite poet, identifying problems common to both - relationships with the people, the conflict between the poet and the “crowd”, uncertainty about the effectiveness of his poetry, his inability to “exhaust the thought and secrets of the soul”, the tragic nature of poetry, due to personal loneliness. For both Khetagurov and Lermontov, uncertainty about the presence of a poetic gift is explained by a critical attitude towards oneself, increased demands for the right to be called true poets. When analyzing the dialogue in the poems of Costa and Lermontov, genre, typological, lexical, and stylistic commonalities are revealed. Keywords: K.L. Khetagurov, M.Yu.
