Abstract:
The authors of the article propose the concept of understanding/rethinking the “small-format” novel “A hundred and first pass” by Iskhak Mashbash as a rare and original phenomenon in the North Caucasian literature. The urgency of the stated problem is determined by the dialectic of the correlation of “one’s own” and “alien” (national and universal), the levels of interdependence of ethnic-cyclic and “eschatological” types of consciousness, actualized by the contradictory globalizing world. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the novel by I. Mashbash is studied in an innovative aspect, with an emphasis on the literary and folklore transformation that is clearly manifested in it. The merit of two key writers – Alim Keshokov and Iskhak Mashbash, who played a significant role in the formation and evolution of national romance is noted: typological similarities and differences between their novels “The Broken Horseshoe” and “A hundred and first pass” are revealed. The main object of research attention is the second of these novels. The article uses a number of scientific methods, among the main ones are analysis, description, comparative historical and hermeneutical methods. The results obtained can be used in the study of the history of the Adyghe literature, and in a broader sense – the literature of the peoples of the North Caucasus and the Russian Federation, as well as in the preparation of special courses and writing qualifying and other kinds of research papers.
Keywords: Adyghe literature, folklore, novel, Iskhak Mashbash, transformation, national, universal.
