OSSETIAN MYTHO-FOLKLORE TRADITIONS IN ARTISTIC RECEPTION BY K.L. KHETAGUROV

Bekoev, Vladimir I.
Izvestia SOIGSI. 2023. IIS 49 (88).
Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the folklore basis of the poem by K.L. Khetagurov “Khetag”.
It pays special attention to the poet’s creative use of the Ossetian legends about Khetag, which served
as the basis for the creation of the named work. The relevance of the article is due to the fact that
previously published works on the study of the folklore traditions of the poem were written in the
Soviet period and, with the exception of individual works, the issues of creative use of plots, images
and motives of Ossetian folklore by K. Khetagurov were considered taking into account the then
existing ideology, often in a distorted form . This was mainly due to the fact that the authors of
these studies sought to present K. Khetagurov as a convinced atheist, which he was not, just as he
was not an orthodox believer. This is clearly evidenced by the works of the poet himself. In the study,
taking into account the achievements of modern folklore, the folklore basis of the poem “Khetag” is
subjected to a comprehensive understanding. The work was carried out on the basis of an integrated
approach using historical-comparative, axiological methods with a wide use of textual analysis.
The methodological basis of the article was the scientific research of N.G. Dzhusoyta, Marietta
Shaginyan, Z.M. Salagaeva and other authors, which touch upon the issues of creative use of folklore
traditions in the works of K.L. Khetagurov. Ossetian folk-poetic creativity had a huge impact on
both the content and the form of the poet’s works. K. Khetagurov himself was a great connoisseur of
Ossetian folklore, his zealous collector. To this end, he often visited different settlements of Ossetia,
met with talented singers and storytellers. Costa approached the use of motives, images, plots of oral
folk art as a philosopher, a deeply thinking artist of the word. He used especially widely the traditions
of folklore in his poetic work. Introducing images, plots, motifs of Ossetian folklore into the artistic
fabric of his works, it was important for him to understand the people’s attitude to certain historical
events, vital issues that worried people at different stages of their difficult centuries-old life.
