DEVELOPMENT AND RESULTS OF REVOLUTIONARY EVENTS IN THE TEREK REGION (1917-1921): A REVIEW OF MODERN HISTORIOGRAPHY

Abstract:
The article reviews modern historiography devoted to the period of the Revolution
and the Civil War on the Terek in 1917-1921, with special attention paid to the main
areas of study. Domestic publications published between 2000 and 2021 are analyzed.
The relevance of the research topic is determined by the need to accumulate new historical
knowledge that will help to overcome and fill the gaps in the history of the North Caucasus
in modern times. When writing the work, the principle of historicism was used, which
involves the study of historical facts and events in a cause-and-effect relationship, consistent
development and interconnection. The study was carried out using a variety of general
scientific (generalization, analysis, synthesis) and special historical (historical-comparative)
methods. It is noted that many socio-economic, historical-psychological, cultural aspects
of the history of the Civil War in the North Caucasus need further development. There
are still unexplored but important aspects of the North Caucasian emigration - this is
an integral part of our national history, full of tragedy, social and personal dramas, the
collapse of life plans, human hopes. A deeper understanding of the events of the revolution
and the Civil War should be facilitated by identifying new and rethinking the known
series of events and biographies, the role of political leaders, including the leaders of the
White movement. The presented review of modern historiography shows that today there
are no unified approaches to assessing the periodization, causes, meaning, essence of the
revolution of 1917. This is caused, first of all, by the complexity of the events under study,
the multidimensionality of the complex of causes that created the revolutionary situation
and influenced its long-term dynamics.
