ON TEACHING RUSSIAN GRAMMAR TO AN IRANIAN AUDIENCE: APPROACHES, METHODS AND PROBLEMS

Izvestia SOIGSI. 2024. IIS 53 (92). P.114-123.
Abstract:
Teaching Russian grammar to an Iranian audience is considered one of the most
important problems in teaching the Russian language in Iran. The article discusses the
approaches and methods used to teach Russian grammar and the reasons for using such
methods in classes with Persian-speaking students. The author focuses on ways to improve
the effectiveness of teaching Russian grammar in Iranian audiences, and also examines
the barriers on this path. It is concluded that given the limited amount of teaching time
for teaching Russian grammar, the language level of Persian-speaking students, their
age, the purpose of teaching Russian and the strong discrepancy between Russian and
Persian grammars, Iranian teachers prefer to use explicit methods when teaching Russian
grammar rules. And the teaching of Russian grammar in Iranian audiences takes place in
three stages, including 1) the stage of providing grammatical information and rules, 2) the
stage of working on the provided material in class, and 3) the stage of homework. Today,
the missing link in teaching Russian grammar in Iranian audiences is considered to be the
absence of the fourth stage, i.e. stage of consolidation of grammatical material. This stage
does not take place in the process of teaching this subject and occurs at another time after
the completion of all grammatical rules in the sixth semester, when the grammatical rules
have been forgotten by the students.
