Izvestia SOIGSI. 2024. IIS 53 (92). P.124-132. Abstract: The problem of national character is relevant at all times. In this article it is considered on the material of Adyghe literature in the context of the Russian and world literary process. Attention is drawn to some inaccuracies in the definition and description of national character among not only literary scholars, but also politicians, historians, representatives of other humanitarian sciences, who to one degree or another addressed the stated problem. The relationship between the concepts of “national identity”, “national originality”, “national character” in correlation with the concept of “universal humanity” is revealed. The article also attempts to track the historical dynamics of the listed concepts used in the literary process of different eras. Some ways of reflecting the Circassian national character in the domestic literary process are criticized. The study also takes place discussions on theoretical issues of defining the concepts of “national character”, “national identity” in the form of polemics with the concepts of different scientists and writers. The final part of the article summarizes the results of the study, identifies the factors characterizing the national originality of the works and the principles of creating a national character in them. The work uses a set of general scientific methods, including analysis, comparison, observation. Comparative-historical, cultural-historical, historical-genetic methods are also involved in the study. The results obtained have theoretical and practical value. They can be used in the development of special courses, programs of universities and secondary specialized and general educational institutions, as well as in the study of issues related to the national identity of the Adyghe (Adyghe, Kabardian, Circassian, Circassian diaspora) literatures. The results of the study can also be helpful in covering the history of multinational literature in our country.
