Abstract:
The article examines the forms of industrial and socio-political women’s activity implemented in the era of Soviet modernization of 1920-1930s, marked by the processes of collectivization, industrialization and cultural construction. Based on the materials of the periodical press and documentation of the central and local authorities, an analysis of the processes of involving the female population of North Ossetia in the formation of the social construct of the “new Soviet woman” is presented. The methodological basis of the study is the method of system analysis, which made it possible to consider the problem in the specific historical conditions of the pre-war decades as a socio-political history, which focuses on the problem of implementing the gender equality declared by the Bolsheviks. The participation of women of North Ossetia in the movement of delegates, women social activists, shock workers and Stakhanov’s movement is analyzed. An analysis of materials from regional women’s periodicals showed that, despite party control and the various goals of these movements in the 1920s and 1930s, participation in them became a form of social activity for women in North Ossetia, which allowed them to adapt more easily in the emerging new social space. It is concluded that the participation of North Ossetian women in these industrial and social movements, despite their novelty and innovation, was limited both by certain gender stereotypes and by the fact that participation in social movements led to an increase in women’s responsibilities within the state. Initiated by the party and developed under state control, women’s activism proved to be a visible confirmation of the approval of the main part of the female population of the state social policy.
