Abstract:

The article provides the first analysis of the results of geological, physical, botanical and zoological studies conducted by scientists during the expedition to the Northern Elbrus region, which took place in 1829 under the leadership of the commander of the troops on the Caucasian line, in the Black Sea region and Astrakhan, the head of the Caucasian region, General G.A. Emanuel. In the process of studying the collected material, modern principles and methods of historical research were used, first of all, the principles of scientificity and objectivity. Such scientists as A.Ya. Kupfer and E.Kh. Lenz, who conducted physical and geological studies, zoologist E.P. Menetrier and botanist K.A. Meyer were invited to the expedition and actively worked on the study of the Elbrus region. Each of them left written reports, notes, letters, which covered the work of the scientists as part of the expedition of 1829. This set of materials was partially identified by us, a number of previously published and are used in this article. Both the information itself in these areas and the historical description of the activities of scientists in collecting it are of scientific interest.
