GRAMMATICAL CATEGORIES OF THE VERB IN GERMAN AND OSSETIAN LANGUAGES.

Abstract:
The article examines the grammatical features of verbs in related languages with identical linguistic structure, in particular, in modern German and Ossetian. A comparative analysis of the tense-aspectual forms of verbs in these Indo-European languages is conducted using research by Russian and foreign linguists. Common and differentiating features of verb stems, personal forms of regular and irregular verbs, and infinitive forms are described, and the main structural and wordformation models of verbs in German and Ossetian are considered. The empirical material for the study is the theoretical works of Russian and foreign scholars in the field of Germanic linguistics and Ossetian studies. The main methods used are linguistic description, componential analysis, lexicalsemantic and comparative analysis. It was revealed that the grammatical categories of the verb in modern German and Ossetian coincide, i.e. The compared languages represent verb categories of tense, person, number, mood, voice, and aspect. However, discrepancies have been established; for example, the grammatical meanings of mood in these languages differ in their scope. It has also been established that both Germanic linguistics and Ossetian studies employ a binary system of grammatical verb meanings, specifically the grammatical meaning of process and the grammatical meaning of state. It has also been revealed that the semantic difference between the categorical verb systems in German and Ossetian is determined by the lack of complementarity at the morphological level. The theoretical and practical significance of the material studied is determined by its potential for inclusion in lecture courses on comparative linguistics and theoretical grammar.
