Abstract:
The article presents the main results obtained during the implementation of the project of the
Russian Foundation for Basic Research “Interjections and onomatopoeic words in the Ossetian
and Russian languages”. The relevance of the study of interjective units is due to the constant
replenishment of this class of words, which does not receive the necessary reflection in dictionaries
and reference books. During the study, the authors considered verbal means of expressing emotions,
as well as onomatopoeic vocabulary in Russian and Ossetian languages. The main trends occurring
in both languages regarding the frequency of use, gender and age preferences, socially determined
differences in the choice of interjective units in a particular speech situation are determined. By
the method of contextual analysis, interjections and onomatopoeic words were investigated and
classified, the semantic description of which was based on the material of explanatory and translated
dictionaries, chats, forums and social networks of the Internet space, mass media, texts of fiction
and materials of folklore-ethnographic, linguistic expedition conducted by researchers of the V.I.
Abaev North Ossetian Institute for Humanitarian and Social Studies research in the territory of the
Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The implementation of the project made it possible to carry out a
comprehensive description of these units of the language system. As a result of the study, the process
of formation of derivative interjections was illustrated; a classification of the contexts of interjection
use was proposed; verbal and nonverbal characteristics of human emotional behavior were revealed.
The active processes in the verbalization of emotions through interjective units in the Ossetian and
Russian languages are considered. The research results presented in the article will help to create a
model for describing interjective expressions of different types that characterize the emotional state
of the speaker. The work can be useful in teaching practice, as well as in the theory and practice of
translation.
