Abstract:

Until the widespread adoption of mass media, the processes of transmitting and reproducing most components of folk culture occurred directly, from person to person. Some of these direct connections have weakened or even been lost today, replaced by new forms, means, and channels for disseminating and popularizing national cultural heritage. The purpose of this study is to characterize the spread of folk culture in the context of a rapidly developing technosphere, identifying prospects and possible problems. The author faced the following tasks: to analyze and assess the current situation, as well as to present a typology of digital channels for the spread of the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia. This article identifies potential channels for disseminating the ethnic/traditional culture of the peoples of Russia under modern conditions and provides relevant examples. It describes key digital technologies that allow for the transmission of audiovisual, textual, and graphical data. The research methods employed were: analysis of scientific sources; review and generalization of media content; and typology of dissemination channels. A conclusion is made about the broadest possibilities of modern digital technologies in terms of preserving, restoring, and popularizing folk culture. The combination of traditional methods of perpetuating, disseminating, and popularizing with the latest digital technologies should be aimed at the most careful preservation of the originality and authenticity of cultural samples. Existing problems requiring immediate solutions are identified (negative consequences of globalization processes; incorrect digital processing of original material, distortion and falsification (including visualization and screening of samples of oral folklore), deepfakes). The study concludes that modern digital technologies offer the broadest possibilities for preserving, restoring, and popularizing folk culture. Existing problems requiring immediate solutions are identified, including: the negative consequences of globalization processes; incorrect digital processing of source material; distortion and falsification (including in visualization and screening) of oral folklore samples; and deepfakes. Conclusion: the protection of ethnocultural heritage from “digital expansion” should be enshrined in Russian legislation. Combining traditional methods of perpetuating, disseminating, and popularizing heritage with the latest digital technologies should aim for the most faithful preservation of the originality and authenticity of cultural artifacts.
